Uterine polyp

A uterine polyp is a polyp or lesion in the uterus (endometrium) lining within the uterine cavity. It is common and occurs in up to 10% of women. These polyps may have a large, flat base, called a sessile, or be attached to the uterus by an elongated pedicle, in which case they are pedunculated. The latter form is more common than the former. These polyps range in size from a few millimeters to several centimeters. If pedunculated, they can protrude through the cervix into the vagina. Small blood vessels may be present, especially in those that are larger.
